Retcon Story #8 is Now Available!
After far too long a delay,1 ”Screaming in Circles”, the eighth installment of my mosaic story, Retcon, is now available.
Those who have ordered a subscription to the full series should find it in their inboxes;2 everyone else can purchase it from any of the usual suspects:
“Screaming in Circles”, like all the stories in Retcon, is designed to stand on its own, but (in the way of mosaic stories) will be richer for being read in the context of the others.
I think the best way to introduce the story is to present here the opening page of the story (which, like all the tales in Retcon, is subdivided into shorter sections; this is the first of them), so here it is:
Once Upon a Time
Three women witnessed their own deaths.
It was, it must be said, a somewhat unsettling, even unnerving, experience, especially since one of the three had been told by a fairly reliable source when her demise was going to occur: and it wasn't then, and it wasn't like that.
Not to mention that they were standing there watching themselves die.
Something, they all agreed, must have gone wrong somewhere.
And the story is how they got into that particular predicament, and then how they tried to get themselves out of it again.
The next Retcon story—the ninth, and the final one in movement one—will be published on June 9, 2024.3
Then I will take the summer to try and catch up, and hope4 to have the first installment of movement two out on September 9, 2024, and also hope5 to be back on a monthly schedule by that point.

I said a month ago that I would publish this story by today (and I have now done so). But I also made a few other pledges, which will be obliged to walk back a bit. I have not (alas) managed a serious essay this month, as I had hoped to do. But I have every intention6 of doing one this month, and to try and make sure they are monthly thereafter.
In the meantime, of course, feel free to browse the archives.
Many thanks to my generous and noble readers for their patience, and I hope that the time of delays is in the past.7
The take-home lesson here, I suppose, being that if you fuck with Time, then Time fucks with you. For my next project, instead of a time-travel series, I’m writing a story about people sitting around and being happy all day.
An offer which is, of course, still available! Once you buy the entire series, I will email you all the previous installments, and then send you each new installment as they are published.
